The body of Ihor Hrushevskyi, a former official of Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs, was discovered in a swimming pool in the Cala Alta residential complex in Spain — the same location where Russian defector pilot Maksim Kuzminov was killed, reports El Español.

The body was found face down in the water, showing no signs of life. Neighbors first tried to assist the man, followed by emergency responders, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The deceased was identified as 61-year-old Ihor Hrushevskyi, who had previously served in the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Department for Combating Organized Crime, and later in the National Police.

No signs of violence were found on the body, though blood was reportedly coming from one ear. According to El Español, the cause of death may have been sudden cardiac arrest or a stroke.

"Some neighbors suspect foul play, believing that Ihor may have been killed by Russian agents — primarily due to the coincidence that the incident occurred in the same complex where Russian pilot Maksim Kuzminov was shot dead on February 13, 2024,” the news outlet notes.

What Ukraine's Foreign Ministry says

In a comment to journalists, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, according to the Ukrainian Consulate General in Barcelona, Hrushevskyi's death was the result of drowning.

"Consular officials have assisted with the necessary paperwork for repatriating the body to Ukraine," the ministry added.
