Foreign Ministry clarifies number of Ukrainians killed in Venice bus accident
Italy has identified all the victims of the tourist bus crash near Venice, Italy. It is now confirmed that four Ukrainians were among the dead, according to Oleh Nikolenko, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Previously, it had been reported that there were five Ukrainian citizens among the victims.
"The Italian side has completed the identification of individuals affected by the accident near Venice. According to updated information, four Ukrainians have lost their lives, and four others have been injured," Nikolenko told tRBC-Ukraine.
He also mentioned that the injured citizens are receiving medical assistance in hospitals in Mestre, Treviso, and Padua, with no immediate threat to their lives.
"Ukrainian consuls are providing consular assistance, monitoring their treatment, and staying in touch with their relatives," Nikolenko added.
Tourist bus crash near Venice
Near the Italian city of Venice, in the Mestre area, a bus transporting 40 tourists to a campsite veered off an overpass and plummeted from a height of approximately 30 meters, crashing near railroad tracks.
As a result, at least 21 people have lost their lives, including two children. 15 passengers sustained injuries.
It was reported that Germans and Ukrainians were on board the bus. Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to RBC-Ukraine that Ukrainian citizens were among both the dead and the injured.
Furthermore, one version of the accident suggests that the driver experienced a medical emergency, while another version suggests that something ignited inside the bus before the accident. However, witnesses questioned by the police have not confirmed the latter version.
