Foreign minister calls on allies to protect Ukraine's skies and allow long-range strikes on Russia
Ukraine's partners can make two specific decisions to help end Russian terror more quickly. Neither of them would be an escalation but would help deter Russia, according to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
Kuleba said that due to Russia's attack on 15 regions of Ukraine, there are casualties and victims. He also mentioned strikes on critical civilian infrastructure and the energy system.
"Russia continues to wage a cowardly war against civilians, which constitutes war crimes. Russian attacks have no justification. They must be strongly condemned and met with tangible action by the international community," Kuleba emphasized.
Two specific decisions from partners
In his opinion, there are two specific decisions that Ukraine’s partners can make to help the country more quickly end Russian terror:
- Confirm Ukraine's right to strike long-range legitimate military targets on Russian territory;
- Agree to use their air defense capabilities to shoot down missiles and drones approaching their airspace.
"None of these decisions are escalatory. On the contrary, they will deter Russia, help to reduce terror and the number of Russian attacks, as well as the resulting casualties. Act now, not later. Help us save lives," Kuleba said.
Massive Russian shelling of Ukraine
Today, August 26, Russia is once again launching massive air attacks on Ukraine. During the air assault, in addition to UAVs from various directions, dozens of Kinzhal missiles were launched.
Last night, it was reported that ten strategic bombers Tu-95MS had taken off, and enemy ships with Kalibr missiles were deployed in the Black Sea.
Following the missile strikes, power outages began in several regions of Ukraine. It is also known that some areas are experiencing water supply cuts due to electricity issues.
Additionally, due to the massive attack, there were movement restrictions in the capital's metro. Two of the three subway lines are operating with route changes.
