Ukraine's energy sector under attack: Power outages in Kyiv and number of regions
Power outages have begun in several Ukrainian cities due to a massive Russian attack that started on the morning of Monday, August 26.
Specifically, power outages are being reported in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, and other cities.
Kyiv
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that power was off in several districts of the capital.
"In several districts of the capital, there are power supply disruptions. As experts note, this is due to issues in the national energy network," he wrote on Telegram.
At the same time, Yasno CEO Serhii Kovalenko said that the energy system in Kyiv and Dnipro is under attack, causing blackouts.
"The exact cause will be determined after the air raid alert ends. Stay safe," he noted, adding that emergency power outages have been implemented in Kyiv.
Odesa
In Odesa, power outages are also being observed due to the shelling. Due to the lack of power, the city has temporarily suspended electric transport services.
Brovary
In Brovary, the power supply is also down due to Russian shelling. Mayor Ihor Sapozhko urged residents to remain calm.
"In some districts of Brovary, the power supply is temporarily out. The reasons are being investigated," he reported.
Mykolaiv
In Mykolaiv, emergency power outage schedules have been introduced due to the massive attack.
"We have received instructions from Ukrenergo to implement emergency outage schedules! All lines are being cut off now," the regional energy company reported.
Kryvyi Rih
In Kryvyi Rih, power outages started after explosions. According to the management companies of apartment buildings, there has been an emergency blackout on the networks. Parts of the Dovhyntsivskyi and Saksahanskyi districts are without power.
Additionally, DTEK energy company reported that emergency power outages are being introduced in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Khmelnytskyi
Power outages have also occurred in several districts of Khmelnytskyi. However, local authorities have not yet provided detailed information.
Large-scale attack on Ukraine
On the morning of August 26, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using attack drones and cruise missiles. As a result, air raid alerts have been declared across the country.
Amid this massive bombardment, Poland has scrambled its air force and allied aviation.
