Poland scrambles aircraft due to Russian missile attack on Ukraine
In the southeastern part of Poland, Polish and allied aircraft were scrambled due to the threat of Russian missiles in Western Ukraine, citing the Operational Command of the Polish Army.
"Since early morning, there has been intense activity by Russian Federation long-range aviation, related to strikes on targets located, among other places, in Western Ukraine," the statement reads.
The last significant increase in Russian aviation activity, during which strikes were carried out in Western Ukraine, was recorded on July 8 of this year.
"All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Poland's airspace have been initiated, and the operational command is continuously monitoring the situation," added the Operational Command of the Polish Army.
On the morning of August 26, a massive air raid alert was announced across Ukraine due to the threat of missiles and drones. Reports mention the takeoff of strategic bombers, as well as potential launches of Kalibr missiles in the Black Sea. Additionally, Russia has launched nearly a hundred Shaheds over Ukraine. Explosions have already been reported in several Ukrainian cities.
During his visit to Kyiv on August 24, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that NATO is continuing discussions about defending Ukrainian airspace with combat assets from individual Alliance members. "There is a red line around which there is a discussion in NATO. This discussion is ongoing," he said.
