Foldable iPhone coming soon: All details so far

Apple is expected to release a foldable iPhone in the coming years, based on numerous rumors and credible sources. Although the device has been discussed for several years, increasing signs suggest that 2026 might be the year Apple introduces its first foldable device, the website MacRumors, specializing in news and rumors about Apple products, reports.
Overall design
Book-style
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple's foldable iPhone will have a style similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold, using a book-style folding mechanism. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the foldable iPhone to have a thickness of 9 to 9.5 mm when folded and between 4.5 to 4.8 mm when unfolded.
Display size
Dual-screen
In its folded state, users will interact with a 5.5-inch outer display, similar to a standard iPhone screen, and when unfolded, the device will feature a 7.8-inch display in the style of an iPad. The inner display is reportedly to be virtually crease-free. These dimensions have been confirmed by two reputable sources.
Chassis and hinge
Durable materials
According to Kuo, the foldable iPhone will have a titanium chassis, and the hinge will be made from a combination of titanium and stainless steel. Apple is reportedly using liquid metal in the hinge construction to enhance durability and eliminate screen creases.
Liquid metal, produced in a die-casting process, was chosen by Apple to solve these two common issues with foldable devices, claims the analyst.
Cameras
Front and rear
The foldable iPhone is expected to be equipped with a dual-lens rear camera and a front camera that will work both in the folded and unfolded states.
Authentication
Touch ID
Kuo believes Apple will withdraw from Face ID authentication and instead integrate Touch ID into the side button to save internal space. Apple previously used a similar solution in the iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini.
Battery life
High-density cells
Apple is focusing on improving energy efficiency by reducing key components, such as the display driver, to free up space for additional battery cells.
The device is expected to use high-density battery cells, similar to those Kuo predicts for the future iPhone 17 Air.
Price
Premium segment
Several sources report that the foldable iPhone will be priced between $2,000 and $2,500 in the US, making it the most expensive iPhone in history. Despite the high cost, it is expected that the new device will attract Apple fans who will view it as a "must-have device" if its quality meets expectations.
Release date
Late 2026
According to analyst Jeff Pu, the device has recently entered the NPI (New Product Introduction) phase at Foxconn. The exact release date is still unknown, but both Kuo and Pu claim that mass production is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
