Apple plans to release a foldable iPad with an 18.8-inch screen, without a visible crease, by around 2028. Prototypes of this device have already been created, resembling two iPad Pros connected side by side, reports one of the leading business news websites, Bloomberg.

What is known about the foldable iPad

Rumors about a foldable iPad have been circulating for several years. Recently, there has been mention of a smaller model that Apple might release in 2026 or 2027. Gurman also recalls the concept of a 20-inch hybrid device, iPad/MacBook, which he described in 2022.

This device is likely not to run on macOS but would combine elements of both the iPad and Mac. By 2028, iPadOS is expected to be advanced enough to support macOS apps.

Since modern Macs can already run iPhone and iPad apps, it’s logical to assume that this feature could work both ways in the future. This could increase the value of the device - especially considering the 13-inch iPad Pro costs around $1400 - making a device with double the screen size more justified if it can run macOS apps.

Gurman also confirms the development of a foldable iPhone, but its release is not expected before 2026. His information aligns with recent leaks about Apple’s plans, including the release of a foldable iPad with an 18.8-inch screen, an OLED MacBook Pro in 2026, and an OLED MacBook Air update in 2027.
