For the first time since the full-scale war began, a NATO delegation has visited Ukraine, led by Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Admiral Pierre Vandier, according to the Telegram post by Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Pavlo Palisa.
The sides held detailed talks on involving Ukrainian troops in upcoming NATO exercises as a simulated opposing force (Red Team).
"Last year’s experience of our units showed allies new methods of warfare — in training scenarios, Ukrainian teams demonstrated a significant advantage," Palisa said.
They also discussed the future of JATEC (NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center).
"We are entering the final stage of deploying Ukrainian command systems, developing analytical capabilities, and joining the scaling of training programs," the deputy head of the Presidential Office said.
Ukrainian forces outperformed NATO troops in drills
Earlier, Ukrainian troops "defeated" NATO forces during the Hedgehog exercises in Estonia. According to Ukrainian servicemen, the results came as a surprise to Western partners.
Media described the outcome as "terrible" for NATO forces. A Ukrainian team of 10 soldiers acting as the opposing force simulated the destruction of 17 armored vehicles and carried out about 30 strikes on other targets in just half a day.
The Ukrainian-led team also "sank" a NATO frigate using naval drones during the Alliance’s multinational exercises REPMUS/Dynamic Messenger 2025.
