Finland allocates €30 mln for ammunition procurement under Czech initiative
The Finnish government has allocated €30 million for the purchase of ammunition as part of the Czech initiative. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Finland, Antti Häkkänen, according to his tweet.
"We discussed the issue of improving support for European defense and Ukraine with the commander of the Czech defense forces. In particular, we discussed the Czech initiative regarding ammunition. Finland will contribute €30 million to this initiative," he wrote.
Czechia has found batch of ammunition for Ukraine
In February, Czech President Petr Pavlo announced that Prague had found 800,000 artillery ammunition for the military needs of Ukraine: half a million of 155mm caliber and 300,000 of 122mm caliber. However, funds were needed to purchase them.
Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada, and France supported the initiative. On March 6, Germany provided a three-digit million sum for the purchase of ammunition, and Norway provided over $150 million for ammunition.
At the beginning of March, Pavlo stated that the allies had already found almost all the necessary funds to purchase the announced batch.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Czechia used contacts from the Cold War to obtain the necessary ammunition for Ukraine. Prague purchases them from countries that are allies of Moscow.
