Germany allocates funds for purchasing ammunition for Ukraine
Germany will participate in Czechia's initiative to purchase 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine, according to German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit.
He emphasizes that the German government is contributing a "three-digit million-dollar sum" to the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine as part of the Czechia's initiative.
The spokesperson did not disclose any further details.
Czechia's initiative
Earlier, Czech President Petr Pavel said that his country had discovered 800,000 shells that could be purchased for Ukraine. The head of state clarified that the shells could be delivered within a few weeks, but funding is needed.
This initiative is a backup option, as the EU has not fulfilled its promise to provide Ukraine with 1 million artillery shells by March.
Some countries have already allocated money to purchase ammunition for Ukraine. These include Lithuania, Belgium, France, Canada, the Netherlands and others.
Ukrainian defenders currently lack ammunition. This is why they recently had to withdraw from Avdiivka.
