Western allies almost fully fund 800,000 shells for Ukraine, Bloomberg
Ukraine's allies have allocated almost all the necessary funds for the purchase of 800,000 artillery shells as part of the Czechia initiative, according to Bloomberg.
According to unnamed sources cited by the news agency, the shells could be delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks. The exact timing will depend on contracts and delivery schedules and may be subject to change.
Bloomberg specifies that Czechia will act as an intermediary with countries willing to finance the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
Czech initiative
Czech President Petr Pavel last month announced that his country had found 800,000 artillery ammunition that could be purchased for Ukraine. He clarified that funding was needed for this.
The ammunition is to be purchased outside the European Union. This was a contingency plan, as the bloc failed to deliver its promise to provide Ukrainian defenders with a million shells by March.
Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada, and France have already supported the Czech plan.
In particular, today, March 6, Germany announced the allocation of a three-digit million amount for the purchase of ammunition.
Ammunition is currently one of the main needs of Ukrainian military personnel. Recently, due to a lack of shells, our fighters had to retreat from Avdiivka. This resulted in the loss of several more settlements.
