FBI reveals new details of plot against Trump
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has revealed new details of the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. It turned out that during the preparation of the assassination attempt, the criminal studied the details of the assassination of former US President John F. Kennedy, according to CNN.
According to the FBI's analysis of the laptop belonging to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the potential assassin of Trump, he researched how far Lee Harvey Oswald was when he shot President John F. Kennedy in 1963, just before the attempt.
The search query was recorded on July 6, the same day Trump's rally was announced.
“On July 6, he did a Google search for: ‘how far away was Oswald from Kennedy. That’s a search that’s obviously significant in terms of his state of mind. That is the same day that it appears that he registered for the Butler rally,” the FBI director Christopher Wray said House Judiciary Committee.
Ray also reported that "around 4 p.m.," shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks "was flying the drone around the area" of the rally, approximately 200 yards from the stage.
The drone was in the air for about 11 minutes, and investigators believe Crooks was watching a live feed from the drone on his phone. It was previously known that the drone was found in his car after the shooting.
Additionally, Crooks had two explosives in his car at the time of the shooting and one in his house, but he likely did not have the ability to detonate them from the roof where he was killed, Wray testified.
“It looks like because of the on/off position on the receivers, that if he had tried to detonate those devices from the roof, it would not have worked,” he said.
The FBI is currently investigating the shooting both as an attempted assassination and a potential act of domestic terrorism. FBI officials have repeatedly stated that they believe Crooks acted alone, and Wray reiterated that there is no evidence of co-conspirators.
On July 13, during a rally in Pennsylvania, former US President Donald Trump was shot at. The shooter fired several shots at Trump, with one bullet grazing his ear.
The FBI has confirmed that the shooter was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. According to The Washington Post, Crooks is listed as a Republican in Pennsylvania's voter rolls.
