FBI finds secret documents linking Trump to Russia, but questions remain

FBI Director Kash Patel has accidentally discovered secret documents concerning President Donald Trump's alleged ties to Russia. The documents, found in "burn bags," may turn out to be a Democratic forgery, Fox News reports.
It is reported that thousands of documents were allegedly found in a secret room inside the FBI building. The documents were packed into so-called "burn bags" and prepared for disposal — destruction in a special incinerator.
According to the channel's sources, one of the documents is a classified appendix to the final report of former Special Counsel John Durham. It contains all the intelligence data reviewed by the prosecutor.
The decision to declassify the appendix will be made by CIA Director John Ratcliffe, FBI Director Kash Patel, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Acting NSA Director William Hartman. After that, the document will be handed over to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, who will make it public.
According to the sources, the document allegedly contains information indicating that the FBI under the 44th US President Barack Obama played a central role in investigating data related to a possible conspiracy between Trump and Russia. It also reportedly mentions that the FBI began an unofficial investigation long before the scandal over Trump's alleged ties to Russia became public.
"Ultimately, the release of the classified annex will lend more credibility to the assertion that there was a coordinated plan inside the US government to help the Clinton campaign stir up controversy connecting Trump to Russia," one source told the outlet.
Another source said that the FBI launched an investigative operation against Trump, known as "Crossfire Hurricane," just a few days after Durham reviewed the data. Therefore, it is not ruled out that the documents may have been forged by Democrats.
"It's really hard to see how Brennan, Clapper and Comey (former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former FBI Director James Comey, all of whom served under Obama – ed.) are going to be able to explain this away," he said.
In early July, the US Central Intelligence Agency released a report alleging numerous procedural violations in the assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. This was stated by CIA Director Ratcliffe.
The US Senate confirmed Kash Patel as FBI Director on February 20, 2025. All Democrats opposed his appointment. Patel is known as a supporter of various conspiracy theories and holds anti-Ukrainian views — in particular, he demanded that Congress "investigate" how Ukraine spends US aid funds.
