US president Donald Trump was aware of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes as early as the 2000s, despite his statements at the time, according to CNN and Reuters.

According to the report, in July 2006, when the first sexual abuse allegations against Epstein became public, Trump reportedly called the Palm Beach (Florida) police chief. This information came from an FBI interview with the police chief conducted in 2019, which was included in the case files.
The police chief, Mike Reiter, said that Trump had expressed relief that law enforcement was acting against Epstein, noting that everyone already knew about his activities. Trump also reportedly told Reiter that people in New York were aware of Epstein and had warned him that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate, was "evil."
Reiter confirmed the details of the FBI interview to the Miami Herald, which first reported on the files. According to the documents, Trump also stated that he had once been near Epstein in the presence of minors and had quickly removed himself from the situation.
In response, the US Department of Justice said it was unaware of any evidence showing that the president had contacted law enforcement 20 years ago.
The White House stated that Trump had long been friends with Epstein but claimed they had fallen out before Epstein’s first arrest. Caroline Livitt, White House press secretary, told journalists on February 10 that Trump had been "honest and transparent" regarding ending his ties with Epstein, adding that it was unclear whether the reported phone call in 2006 had actually taken place.
On January 30, another batch of documents in the Epstein case was released, which reportedly mentioned "orgy parties" involving Trump. Trump later stated that he had no connection to Epstein’s criminal activities and nothing to do with the case.
