Fashion disaster: Worst outfits from the 2026 Oscars

The Oscars 2026 red carpet featured plenty of luxurious looks, but not all celebrities managed to impress fashion critics. Some went for over-the-top theatricality, while others opted for complex silhouettes and conflicting details that ultimately spoiled the overall impression.
RBC-Ukraine presents the celebrity outfits that raised the most questions from fashion critics this year
Auli'i Cravalho
Auli'i Cravalho appeared on the red carpet in a voluminous ivory dress by Antonio Marras.
The outfit featured large floral rosettes on the bodice and a multilayered tulle skirt.
Although the design clearly aimed for couture fairy-tale elegance, the oversized details visually overwhelmed the actress’s figure.
The abundance of fabric and decorations made the silhouette too heavy, causing the look to lose its lightness and resemble more of a stage costume than a successful red carpet appearance.

Chloé Zhao
Director Chloé Zhao appeared in a black Gabriela Hearst gown, created specially for her, complemented by a sheer black veil and understated jewelry.
The shimmering fabric and voluminous bell sleeves created a strong gothic vibe, but the veil made the look overly somber and obscured her face.
In the end, the intended avant-garde effect came across as more mournful than stylish, with the heavy presentation overshadowing the simplicity of the gown itself.

Jennifer Goodwin
Jennifer Goodwin opted for a sheer black organza gown by Monse, featuring a statement voluminous sleeve and exposed shoulders.
The look was complemented by lace inserts and a train, but the combination of transparency, layers, and different textures failed to create a cohesive effect.
A chunky silver choker and black clutch further complicated the overall impression, appearing too heavy for such a delicate gown. As a result, the outfit lacked harmony.

Lia Muren
Lia Muren chose a white avant-garde look with a sculptural effect, complemented by a high hairstyle.
Her gown combined layered tulle, stiff structured elements, and feather embellishments around the décolletage.
Despite the interesting experimental concept, the excessive mix of materials disrupted the silhouette and robbed it of cohesion.
In the end, the outfit looked more like a runway art piece than an elegant look for the ceremony.

Kelty Knight
In the case of Kelty Knight’s look, the main issue was not the cut but the color.
The silhouette itself looked successful, but the chosen shade didn’t have the impact it could have.

Laura Lufesi
The Misci dress chosen by Laura Lufesi undoubtedly stood out for its creative approach, but for the Oscars, her look seemed too casual.
Despite the interesting idea, the outfit lacked the formality and grandeur usually expected for such a prestigious ceremony.
Fashion critics believe the dress would have looked much better in a chartreuse tone or a soft creamy yellow shade.

Felicity Jones
Felicity Jones chose a dress in a beautiful, striking shade that truly worked in her favor.
However, the main critique concerned the fit: a more tailored and defined silhouette would have made the look much stronger and visually cohesive.

Maggie O’Farrell
Maggie O’Farrell’s look certainly cannot be called boring, as it drew attention with its brightness and unconventional style.
However, the excess of accents became the problem: the intense pink color, bold silhouette, and overall decorative elements clashed with each other.
It seemed that for a more successful result, one bright detail should have been sacrificed.
