What is known about Oscar 2026
This year, several projects about Ukraine made it to the Academy Awards shortlists.
Critics highlighted the documentary 2000 Meters to Andriivka by Mstyslav Chernov, the animated documentary I Died in Irpin by Anastasiia Falileieva, and the British film Rock, Paper, Scissors by Franz Böhm.
However, they did not make the final list of nominees for the award. Instead, the film Mr. Nobody Against Putin was selected in the Best Documentary Feature category. The film tells the story of a Russian schoolteacher who observes the influence of propaganda on a local school. Meanwhile, the Best Animated Short Film category includes the film Three Sisters by Russian director Konstantin Bronzit.
Actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi commented emotionally: "The reality where a story about a schoolteacher from the Chelyabinsk region is nominated, while '2000 meters to Andriivka' is not. Despair. I will never understand this. But I will still have my say. I promise."
