Russian forces carried out strikes on Zaporizhzhia late in the evening of January 1. As a result of the attack, fires have already been reported in the city, according to Suspilne Novyny and posts by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov.

"Explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia," correspondents from Suspilne Novyny reported at 11:32 PM.

Earlier, Ivan Fedorov warned of a drone threat in the region. He later continued to report on the movement of Russian drones, most of which were heading toward Zaporizhzhia. By 11:45 PM, a fire had been confirmed.

"Russians are striking the regional center. There is a fire. The air raid alert continues. Stay in safe places," he wrote.

After that, the head of the Regional Military Administration continued to track Russian strike drones moving toward different districts of Zaporizhzhia.

"Another fire has broken out in one of Zaporizhzhia’s districts as a result of the hostile attack. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties," Ivan Fedorov said.

As of 11:56 PM, the air raid alert map showed ongoing alerts in Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions.

On December 31, an air raid alert in Zaporizhzhia region lasted for more than four hours during the daytime. Explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia amid the prolonged alert.

Later, Ivan Fedorov clarified that the shelling caused several fires and struck an industrial infrastructure facility.

In addition, later that evening, shortly before the New Year, Russian forces carried out a repeat attack on the city. As a result, a high-rise residential building was damaged and vehicles caught fire.
