Residents in the Russian cities of Vladimir and Yaroslavl reported explosions overnight on October 31, according to ASTRA outlet.

Eyewitnesses shared footage on social media showing an explosion on the outskirts of the city of Vladimir.

According to ASTRA, the blast occurred in the Energetik settlement, reportedly hitting a power substation.

The Vladimirskaya substation is one of the region’s largest power facilities, with an installed capacity of around 4,010 MVA, ASTRA reports.

It serves as a key energy hub, with multiple transmission lines ranging from 110 to 750 kV branching from it, providing power across the regional grid.

Journalists also cited residents who reported explosions near the oil refinery in Yaroslavl. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) confirmed that Yaroslavl’s Tunoshna Airport had temporarily suspended aircraft arrivals and departures following the incidents.

Impact sites within Yaroslavl refinery

A fire broke out at the Yaroslavl oil refinery on October 1, with a large column of smoke visible from afar.

Earlier, in January 2024, a fixed-wing drone attacked the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, crashing near a hydrocracking unit. No casualties were reported, and bomb disposal teams were deployed to the site.

The Novo-Yaroslavl oil refinery (PJSC Slavneft-YANOS) is among Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities, with an average annual refining capacity of about 15 million tons.
