Powerful explosions rocked Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region overnight on August 15, according to OSINT channels.

According to preliminary reports from monitoring channels, the target may have been Savasleyka.

It is a military airfield where MiG-31K fighter jets are based. They are used as carriers of Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles.

Photos released from the scene show a glow in the area of the airfield.

Savasleyka airfield has come under attack by Ukraine's Defense Forces before. In June 2025, the General Staff confirmed that at least one MiG-31 had been destroyed at the airbase - Ukrainian Special Operations Forces destroyed two aircraft at the airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod region at the time.

In early August, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the Saratov oil refinery, the Engels airfield and an oil depot in Russia's Kaluga region. Shortly afterward, major fires also broke out at the Gvardeyskoye military airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea following a series of powerful explosions.
