Explosions reported in Kurchatov, where Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located
Late in the evening on August 6, explosions were heard in Kurchatov, Kursk region. The sound was audible in the area where the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located, according to Russian Telegram channels.
Videos from surveillance cameras posted on social media show explosions occurring around 10:50 PM. Local channels speculate that the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant may have been targeted.
Later, Kursk region Acting Governor Alexei Smirnov reported that two missiles were allegedly intercepted by Russian air defense forces.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Kurchatov, Igor Korpunkov, asserts that the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in the city is reportedly operating normally.
What’s happening
Following the massive shelling of the city of Sudzha in the Kursk region, Russians began reporting alleged attempts by Ukrainian forces to breach defenses on the morning of August 6. By the evening, local officials told Russian media that approximately 90% of residents had evacuated from four settlements in the Sudzha district.
On the same day, Russia decided to deploy reserves to the border area where Ukrainian forces were reportedly trying to break through.
