Late in the evening on June 24, explosions were heard in Taganrog, Rostov region, and Russian sources reported a drone attack. Air defense systems were active, according to Russian channels.

On the evening of June 24, residents of Taganrog and other areas of Russia’s Rostov region reported a series of powerful explosions, the sound of drones flying overhead, and air defense activity.

According to eyewitnesses, at least six explosions were heard.

In addition to Taganrog, reports of drone flights also came from neighboring regions. Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that 22 Ukrainian drones had been destroyed over the past several hours. According to Russian sources, 13 drones were shot down over the Voronezh region, 4 over the Belgorod region, 3 over the Saratov region, and one each over Samara and Tatarstan.

The most attention was drawn by reports of a possible drone strike on the Atlant-Aero facility in Taganrog.

According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, this is a key facility within Russia’s military-industrial complex. The plant specializes in producing components for combat drones, control systems, electronic warfare equipment, and digital solutions for strike FPV drones and loitering munitions.

There are currently no official comments from Russian authorities regarding damage to facilities or reports of casualties.

However, Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations had earlier warned of an increased threat of UAV attacks across the entire region.

In December 2024, Forbes reported that drones targeted the Millerovo air base in Russia’s Rostov region. The intended targets were likely Russian Air Force Su-25 attack aircraft.

Additionally, social media reports suggest a possible strike on an airfield in Crimea.
