Russian Millerovo airbase struck by drones: Forbes analyzes possible target
Unknown drones attacked the Millerovo airbase in Russia's Rostov region. Their targets might have been Su-25 attack aircraft of the Russian Air Force, according to Forbes.
The media states that the purpose of such strikes on Russian airfields is not always to destroy specific buildings or pieces of equipment. Ukraine's use of long-range munitions - Western missiles, as well as its own missiles and drones - plays a role in this. This makes the Russians move their forces further from the front line.
Forbes notes that last year, commercial satellites detected dozens of Su-25 and Su-30 fighter jets at Millerovo airbase. However, by this fall, the same satellites spotted only a few Su-25 aircraft.
The Russians likely evacuated their jets more than 600 kilometers away from the front line. However, this does not mean that attacks on Russian airfields are pointless. These attacks now limit the frequency of Russian combat aircraft flights during the week. Additionally, they reduce the time these planes can spend over the front line, making them less effective.
Earlier reports mentioned explosions near the Millerovo airbase on the evening of December 23 in the Rostov region. The Russians complained about a drone attack.
