Drone attack reported near strategic airfield in Russia's Rostov region
On the evening of December 23, explosions were reported near the Millerovo airfield in Russia's Rostov region, according to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council. Russian Telegram channels claimed the incident was a drone attack.
Reports online suggest that debris from the drones caused a fire on one of the streets. However, there is no confirmation of the information.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that nine drones were shot down by air defense systems.
It was also reported that the Millerovo Cossack Cadet Professional College building was damaged in the attack. Students are evacuated from dormitories.
Kovalenko emphasized that the Millerovo airfield is a strategic base in the Rostov region. It is used for frontline aviation operations that support Russian infantry in eastern and southern Ukraine.
Explosions in Rostov region
On the night of December 22, explosions were heard in Russia’s Rostov region. Local authorities reported a combined attack.
Earlier, on December 19, the Kamensky Combine in the Rostov region, one of Russia's largest chemical enterprises producing rocket fuel, also came under attack.
