Explosions in Penza disable two major Russian gas pipelines, sources say

A series of explosions in the Russian city of Penza disabled the only main pipeline system. The targeted pipelines supplied Russian military facilities involved in the war against Ukraine, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing sources.
According to Ukrainian intelligence sources, on September 8, around 4 a.m., at least four explosions occurred in the Zheleznodorozhny district of Penza.
As a result, two main gas pipeline tubes with a capacity of 2 million barrels per day were put out of operation.
In addition, according to the source, two more regional gas pipeline tubes were damaged at the same location.
Sources clarified that the affected pipelines supplied Russian military facilities involved in the war against Ukraine.
A few hours after the explosions, local media spread reports of allegedly “planned exercises” at oil and gas facilities involving emergency and special services.
Thus, the Russian authorities attempted to conceal the real causes of the incident and urged residents to remain calm and not respond to social media reports about the explosions.
