What Russia is using to attack Ukraine
The massive attack began in the evening. Russia first launched swarms of drones from the north and east, later sending strike UAVs from occupied territories in the south.
As of 03:00 AM, drones were still being detected in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Odesa and several other regions.
Around 01:20 AM, a nationwide missile threat was declared. Russia launched Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles first, followed by ballistic missiles. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and the region, in Dnipro, and in the Zaporizhzhia region. About an hour later, the enemy launched a second wave of Kinzhal missiles.
Monitoring channels also reported new drone launches. In addition, a cruise-missile attack from Russian strategic aviation is expected by morning.
Kyiv and Kyiv region
Explosions were heard in Kyiv during the combined attack. Local authorities confirmed air defence activity, while the Air Force reported Kinzhal and ballistic trajectories toward the capital. There is no information on the consequences yet.
It is possible that Kyiv was not the final target of the Kinzhals. The mayor of Makariv, Vadym Tokar, stated that explosions at 01:38 AM and 02:29 AM were likely caused by a ballistic wave from Kinzhals flying further west.
Fastiv, however, did sustain direct hits. Ukrzaliznytsia reported strikes on railway infrastructure.
Because of this, passenger train routes passing through Fastiv are being rapidly rerouted. Delays are being monitored, and dispatchers will assist with any necessary transfers, the company said.
There were likely hits on the railway station in Fastiv. Reports also indicate large fires in Novi Petrivtsi near Kyiv.
Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk region
Acting head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration, Vladyslav Haivanenk,o also reported massive strikes. According to him, Dnipro and the region were attacked, though details were not provided.
Air Force data shows the region was targeted by drones and ballistic missiles. Explosions were reported near Kryvyi Rih, likely in the Zelenodolsk area. Zelenodolsk Mayor Dmytro Neveselyi confirmed ballistic strikes on the city via Facebook.
Zelenodolsk is home to the Kryvyi Rih thermal power plant.
