Near the city of Cherkasy, early on December 16, explosions were heard amid the operation of air defense forces in response to an enemy attack using Shahed drones, according to local media and Telegram channels.

It was noted that the sounds typical of air defense operations were heard near Cherkasy, as well as on the outskirts of the city, around 5:40 a.m. Kyiv time.

Around 5:30 a.m. Kyiv time, the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, warned residents of the region about increased danger and the threat of enemy attacks using strike drones.

According to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as of 5:10 a.m. Kyiv time, the movement of a group of kamikaze drones from the Poltava region toward Cherkasy was detected.

Around 5:50 a.m. Kyiv time, Cherkasy-based public pages, and Suspilne Cherkasy reported an explosion heard in or near the city.

Night attack by Shahed drones

It was previously reported that on the evening of December 15, air raid alerts were issued in several regions of Ukraine due to the threat of Russian Shahed strike drones. The enemy drones entered the country's airspace from the northern direction.

After midnight, an all-clear was issued regarding the threat of kamikaze drones, but later the Shaheds re-entered from the north, and several groups of enemy drones were subsequently detected. The drones were maneuvering, and as of now, they have been spotted over eight regions.
