Explosion occurs at defense facility in USA: Casualties reported
Today, July 3, there was an explosion at a defense facility in the American state of Arkansas. As a result, two people were injured and one person is reported missing, ABC News informs.
A representative of the company reported that an explosion occurred at the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems plant in Camden, approximately 138 kilometers south of Little Rock.
Initially, the company described it as an "incident involving pyrotechnics," but later confirmed it was an explosion.
"At this time, we are working with first responders and can confirm the incident resulted in at least two injuries and one missing individual... We are cooperating fully with the authorities as they conduct their investigation," Berkley Whaley with General Dynamics said in a statement.
The statement did not provide details on the severity of the injuries. The US State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs stated it is monitoring the situation and is prepared to assist but did not provide additional details.
General Dynamics is a global aerospace and defense company. The Camden facility spans over 880,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, supporting military programs such as Hellfire and Javelin missiles, as well as various mortar munitions.
It's worth noting that in May of this year, a significant fire occurred at the Diehl Metal Applications building complex in Berlin, Germany.
Diehl, among other products, manufactures the IRIS-T air defense systems. The possibility of sabotage causing the fire cannot be ruled out.
