Explosion heard in Sumy amid missile threat, city lost power
In the vicinity of Sumy, an explosion occurred shortly after midnight on November 18, followed by power outages in the city. Before the explosion, the movement of an enemy missile toward the regional center had been reported, according to Ukraine's Air Force Telegram channel, local Sumy social media pages, and the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
The explosion in Sumy was heard at approximately 12:06 a.m. Kyiv time.
Just minutes earlier, military authorities had warned of the threat of Russian ballistic weaponry being launched from the northeast.
Additionally, a missile heading toward Sumy had been detected.
Enemy attack drones were observed in the Sumy region, particularly in the Konotop district.
According to media reports and Sumy Telegram channels, parts of Sumy experienced power outages following the explosion.
Statement from the Regional Military Administration about the shelling of Sumy
Later, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that around 12:01 a.m. Kyiv time, Russian forces launched a missile strike on critical infrastructure in the city of Sumy.
Preliminary information suggests that a ballistic missile was used in the attack.
It was noted that Sumy experienced power outages, and emergency services are working to address the situation.
"The consequences of the strike are being assessed," the administration added.
This attack occurred just a few hours after a missile strike on a residential area in Sumy, where a hit near a nine-story building was reported.
According to the latest data, the earlier missile strike in Sumy claimed the lives of 10 people, including two children, and leftover 50 others injured.
