Explosion heard at ammunition depot in Czechia

On Tuesday, March 25, an explosion occurred at an ammunition depot in the town of Bořiny in the central part of the Czech Republic, according to ČTK Ceske Noviny.
According to media reports, the explosion occurred today at 8:45 a.m. local time at the STV Group's warehouse in Polička, Svitavsko district. This enterprise produces large-caliber ammunition and is engaged in the repair of military equipment and the supply of spare parts.
According to preliminary data, one person was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital by helicopter. People have been evacuated from the areas near the scene. There is no danger to residents. Several nearby roads are closed.
The probable cause of the explosion is a process violation. The warehouse where the explosion occurred not only stores but also produces large-caliber ammunition.
Czechia plays a key role in the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, organizing large-scale purchases and coordinating international initiatives for its production. The Czech government, together with its EU and NATO partners, has launched a project to purchase 155 mm and 122 mm artillery shells.
Czechia is also increasing its own production of ammunition, particularly for artillery and armored vehicles. Czech defense companies are increasing the rate of production of shells and modernizing old Soviet-style stockpiles to transfer them to Ukraine. In this way, Czechia is not only strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities but also enhancing its role in the European military-industrial complex.
In early January, 6 people were killed in an explosion at a restaurant in a Czech city. The explosion of a propane-butane cylinder occurred in a restaurant in Most, northwestern Czechia, causing the building to catch fire.
