European heads of state and government have finalized revisions to the US peace plan for ending the war in Ukraine and have already sent the updated proposal to Washington, Der Spiegel reports.

European officials have been working on a counterproposal to the American plan since Friday evening. The heads of state and governments met on the sidelines of the G20 summit, and a separate working document was reportedly prepared and sent to Washington.

Der Spiegel added that, according to their sources, the document is a revised version of the 28-point plan by US President Donald Trump.

US peace plan and Europe's intentions to revise it

It was reported that the US has developed a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The plan would require Ukraine to withdraw from Donbas, reduce its armed forces, give up long-range weapons, and make several additional concessions. In return, Ukraine would receive security guarantees modeled on NATO.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov announced that consultations between Ukraine and the US on the peace plan will take place in Geneva in the coming days, and he shared the list of the Ukrainian delegation.

The European Council indicated that the US plan could serve as a basis for peace but requires substantial revisions. According to Bild, Europe intends to amend at least four of the 28 points, including territorial issues, the reduction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, security guarantees, and Trump’s proposal on frozen Russian assets.

Media reports suggest that a meeting is scheduled tomorrow in Geneva between delegations from the US, Ukraine, and representatives of three European countries.
