European Council chief does not plan to convene emergency EU summit

European Council President António Costa has no plans to convene an emergency EU summit to discuss the war in Ukraine. However, such a meeting is possible in the future, The Guardian reports.
According to the unnamed sources, Costa does not plan a special European Council session on Ukraine at this time due to a lack of concrete developments.
An unnamed official stated that the organization of an extraordinary EU summit is not excluded, but its purpose must be to achieve concrete results.
The official added that Costa has initiated consultations with EU leaders on two main issues: support for Ukraine and security guarantees.
Meanwhile, as reported by Reuters, French President Emmanuel Macron plans to hold a second online summit on Wednesday, February 19, to discuss Ukraine and European security. A similar meeting took place on Monday, February 17.
Invited countries include Norway, Canada, the three Baltic states (Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia), Czechia, Greece, Finland, Romania, Sweden, and Belgium.
Emergency summit in Paris
On February 17, an emergency summit convened by the French President took place in Paris. It was attended by European leaders and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. During the summit, the participants discussed further support for Ukraine, but no decisions were made.
