European Commissioner warns of grim future if Ukraine doesn't join NATO

Russia demands that Ukraine abandon its NATO membership bid because it truly fears this. This complicates Russia's planning for its next act of aggression, states the first European Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius on X.
"Russia demands ‘no NATO’ for Ukraine. Not because they fear an anti-Russian NATO offensive from Ukrainian territory," he explained.
According to him, Russia fears that NATO would defend Ukraine against the next Russian aggression.
"‘No NATO’ for Ukraine makes it easier for Russia to plan its next aggression," stated Andrius Kubilius.
Ukraine's NATO membership
Russia continues to speculate about Ukraine's NATO membership. Before the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Putin's officials claimed that Russia was observing a "gradual invasion" of NATO into Ukraine and that Moscow could no longer tolerate this.
It is worth noting that recently, US President Donald Trump expressed his views on Ukraine's desire to join NATO, linking the country's NATO accession process with the ongoing war.
Prior to this, the US published a "peace plan" for Ukraine, which included several points, such as Ukraine's renouncement of NATO membership, recognition of Crimea as Russian, and a freeze on hostilities.
This proposal was criticized in Ukraine. As a result, a meeting in London between Ukraine, the US, and European countries at the level of foreign ministers was canceled.
