Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Ukraine Support Group in the House of Representatives, remains in the US Congress, according to News 5 Cleveland.
According to unofficial election results, Democrat Marcy Kaptur defeated Republican candidate Derek Merrin and independent candidate Kathy McKinstry in the election for Ohio's 9th Congressional District.
Kaptur faced geographical challenges leading up to this election after the state's 2024 redistricting shifted the district’s boundaries to make it more Republican-leaning.
With her victory, she remains the longest-serving woman in the US House of Representatives. Kaptur has served the residents of northwestern Ohio for over four decades, having first been elected in 1983.
The new US Congress will be missing a number of key supporters of Ukraine. Some of them did not run for re-election, while others lost their primaries or are at risk of losing their seats in the November 3 election.
Democrat Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Ukraine Caucus in the House of Representatives, is facing a re-election challenge. After her congressional district was redrawn, she found herself in a high-risk zone.
According to the election results, the Democrats have gained full control of the US Congress. As of now, they hold a majority of seats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
