The European Commission has welcomed Serhii Koretskyi's appointment as Ukraine's prime minister and looks forward to close cooperation, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

According to the European Commission president, following Koretskyi's appointment as head of the Cabinet of Ministers, her team expects Kyiv to take new decisive steps.

Ursula von der Leyen believes that the new prime minister and his team will make Ukraine's European integration the central element of the country's transformation efforts.

"You can count on our full support as you advance your ambitious reform agenda. Notably in the areas of the rule of law, energy and other key sectors of the economy," von der Leyen said, addressing Koretskyi publicly.

On July 16, Ukraine's parliament voted to appoint former Naftogaz (Ukraine's state-owned oil and gas company) and Ukrnafta (Ukraine's largest oil producer) CEO Serhii Koretskyi as prime minister. A total of 289 lawmakers voted in favor of the decision.

Serhii Koretskyi has already made his first statement after taking office as head of the Cabinet of Ministers. He outlined his action plan for the position for the first time.

It also became known how the European Union is reacting to the reshuffle in Ukraine's government.

Moreover, it emerged that Zelenskyy will have to explain his decision to dismiss Fedorov to the European Union.
