Europe's unity with Ukraine 'more important than ever,' Tusk says after Zelenskyy-Trump talks

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed the importance of European solidarity with Ukraine against Russian aggression. He made this conclusion after yesterday's meeting between the US and Ukrainian leaders.
"After President Zelenskyy's talks yesterday in the White House and with European leaders, one thing is absolutely clear: Europe's solidarity with Ukraine against Russia's aggression is today more important than ever before," Tusk wrote on social media platform X.
Trump-Zelenskyy meeting and its outcomes
On Friday, October 17, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting at the White House that lasted over two hours.
Following the meeting, Zelenskyy declined to share details on the potential transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine but noted that the issue has not been dismissed. He emphasized that Trump must understand Ukraine also needs this weaponry.
He added that there is currently an agreement not to discuss the matter publicly, as the US wants to avoid escalation.
Media reports suggested that Trump has so far refused to provide Tomahawk missiles. The US President is focused on diplomacy and believes that sending the missiles could backfire.
After the talks, Trump urged Ukraine and Russia to maintain their positions on the current frontline, which Zelenskyy supported.
Zelenskyy also spoke with European leaders after the meeting, briefing them on his discussion with Trump. According to Axios, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer suggested that the US and Europe work on a peace agreement for Ukraine, modeled on Trump's Gaza Strip plan.
