The US has moved some of its air defense systems from Europe to the Middle East. This step comes amid the escalation of the military conflict with Iran, stated the commander of US European Command and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alex Grynkewich, according to CNN.
Relocation of air defense systems
During a hearing at the Senate Armed Services Committee, General Grynkewich confirmed that some defense resources were redirected to protect NATO allies in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In response to Senator Angus King’s question about whether air defense systems were indeed moved to the Middle East due to the conflict, the general replied affirmatively.
"Yes, sir, absolutely," Grynkewich emphasized.
He also added that some of EUCOM’s air defense capabilities were used to protect NATO allies and ensure regional stability amid active combat operations.
Escalation of the war with Iran
The situation in the Middle East has entered a phase of open confrontation. Earlier reports indicated that the US is urgently changing its air defense systems in response to large-scale Iranian attacks.
Additionally, according to US intelligence, Iran could target the US West Coast.
Amid the escalation, US President Donald Trump stated that the US has effectively won the war against Iran, and now the only question is when the fighting will end.
At the same time, US intelligence does not see signs of a rapid collapse of the ruling regime in Tehran, despite nearly two weeks of intensive strikes by the US and Israel.
