Against the backdrop of drone incursions into Danish airspace, Europe has promised to respond to the threat "with strength & determination," said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"Just spoke with PM Frederiksen regarding the drones incursion around Copenhagen airport. While the facts are still being established, it is clear we are witnessing a pattern of persistent contestation at our borders," wrote the head of the European Commission.

According to her, during the drone provocations, Europe's critical infrastructure came under threat.

"Europe will respond to this threat with strength & determination," von der Leyen stated.

Unidentified drones invaded Danish airspace

On the evening of September 22, several unidentified drones violated Danish airspace, causing Copenhagen Airport to suspend its operations for nearly four hours.

The following morning, the drones left the area on their own, after which the airport resumed operations.

According to preliminary data, these were two or three large drones, but none could be seized.

Danish police later reported that the drones were controlled by a "competent operator."

In addition, on the night of September 23, operations at Gardermoen Airport in Oslo, Norway's capital, were also suspended. The reason was likewise the detection of several drones.

Denmark does not rule out a Russian trace in the drone provocations, since recently, Russian drones invaded the airspace of Poland and Romania, and there have also been significant provocations against the Baltic states.

According to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, the goal of the drones over Copenhagen was to cause chaos and create concern, as well as to test the limits of what can be done.

Earlier, Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU intends to build a drone wall on the eastern flank of the bloc. The EU will also monitor developments in the eastern part of Europe.

On September 10, Russian drones massively invaded Polish airspace — the country's fighter aircraft immediately responded and shot down several drones. It was even reported that a private house was destroyed as a result of the drone operation.

It was after this incident that discussions began in the EU about strengthening defense and taking measures to preempt threats.
