The European Union has called on China not to provide Russia with any material assistance that would support the military-industrial base of the aggressor country for the war against Ukraine, according to the press release of the European Council following the EU-China summit.

As reported, during the summit, the leaders of the EU and China discussed Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.

The European Union emphasized that this war is not only an existential threat to Ukraine but also to global security.

The EU also reiterated that, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China bears a special responsibility for upholding the international order based on rules, the UN Charter, and international law. It is noted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a clear case of their violation.

" The EU repeated its calls on China not to provide any material support which sustains Russia’s military-industrial base. The EU encouraged China to use its influence to support a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, based on the principles of the UN Charter," the press release states.

In addition, the EU emphasized that the supply of troops and weapons from the DPRK to support Russia’s war against Ukraine creates significant security risks in Europe, as well as in East Asia.

China cooperates with Russia

Previously, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, China has allegedly maintained a neutral position, calling for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through diplomatic means.

Beijing has not condemned Russia’s invasion, however, it has advocated for "respect for the sovereignty of all countries."

At the same time, China maintains close economic and political ties with Russia, including increased trade.

It is worth noting that China helps Russia with weapons, and Chinese soldiers are fighting on the front lines in Ukraine.

In particular, the media recently reported that Chinese combat engines are secretly transported to Russia under the guise of "industrial refrigeration units" to bypass Western sanctions.

In addition, the EU recently included in its new sanctions package two Chinese financial institutions and five companies registered in the PRC due to China’s close ties with Russia, which continues its war against Ukraine. The sanctions specifically targeted banks conducting operations with cryptocurrencies.

In this regard, Beijing expressed official dissatisfaction to the European Union.

As the media reported, during a meeting with the EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that Beijing cannot allow Russia’s defeat in the war against Ukraine.
