The European Union may impose sanctions on Iran next week over the transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia. The decision is likely to be made on October 14, Reuters reports.
An unnamed senior EU official told the publication that the meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers, which will take place on Monday, October 14, will result in the first package of sanctions in the context of Iran's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia.
The Reuters source clarified that the restrictions will be imposed on both individuals and organizations. It did not disclose further details.
Iran transfers missiles to Russia
In early September, Western media reported that Iran had transferred ballistic missiles to Russia. The fact of the delivery was confirmed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
In turn, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has repeatedly denied this information. According to him, the missiles could have been transferred only before he took office (on July 30 this year).
According to unconfirmed information, Russia received short-range Fath 360 ballistic missiles from Iran, which have a range of 120 kilometers.
On October 4, Bloomberg wrote that the European Union was preparing sanctions against Iran for military assistance to Russia. According to journalists, the restrictions may affect about 12 individuals and organizations.
