EU to hold closed-door talks on 18th sanctions package against Russia

The European Commission will hold closed consultations with EU member states this weekend regarding the 18th sanctions package against Russia, according to Rikard Jozwiak, Europe editor at Radio Free Europe.
"The European Commission will have so-called 'confessionals' with EU member states this weekend over the next Russian sanctions package," the journalist wrote.
According to him, the meetings will take place this weekend, on May 24-25.
EU sanctions against Russia
On May 20, the EU imposed its 17th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting maritime transport, oil traders, and their foreign collaborators.
In particular, 189 vessels from third countries were blacklisted, bringing the total number of affected ships to 342. These vessels are part of Russia's so-called shadow fleet and are involved in transporting Russian oil, often using high-risk shipping practices or supporting Russia's energy sector.
On the same day, the EU began preparations for the 18th package of sanctions against Russia.
Previously, the EU had warned that broader sanctions would be introduced if Russia refused to agree to a ceasefire and engage in peace negotiations with Ukraine.
