Western countries need to lift restrictions on the use of weapons provided to Ukraine. This would help protect Ukrainian civilians, according to EU High Representative Josep Borrell on Twitter (X).

He reminded that Russia has resumed massive shelling of Ukraine. Today's attack was aimed at civilian infrastructure, including a hydroelectric plant, and resulted in casualties.

"Ukraine needs air defense now," Borrell emphasized.

According to the EU High Representative, he will discuss this issue in a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and the foreign ministers of EU member states on Thursday, August 29.

"I reiterate that lifting restrictions on the use of capabilities against vs the Russian military involved in aggression against Ukraine, in accordance with international law, would strengthen Ukrainian self-defense, safe lives and reduce destruction in Ukraine," he noted.
