Russia's largest attack: Air Force reveals details of attack on Ukraine and air defense response
On Monday, August 26, Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. A total of 236 enemy air attack weapons were detected, according to Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force.
As Oleshchuk reported, the Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, particularly targeting the fuel and energy sector, using various types of air, ground, and sea-launched missiles.
The Air Force's radar troops detected and tracked 236 enemy air attack systems, including 127 missiles and 109 strike drones:
- 3 air-launched ballistic missiles Kh-47M2 Kinzhal from the airspace of Ryazan and Lipetsk regions
- 6 ballistic missiles Iskander-M/KN-23 from Kursk, Voronezh regions, and Crimea
- 77 cruise missiles Kh-101 from Tu-95MS aircraft from the airspace of Volgograd region and the Caspian Sea area
- 28 cruise missiles Kalibr from surface/subsurface carriers in the eastern part of the Black Sea
- 3 cruise missiles Kh-22 from the airspace of Voronezh region
- 10 guided air missiles Kh-59/Kh-69 from Su-57 and Su-34 aircraft from the airspace of Belgorod region and Mariupol area
- 109 strike UAVs Shahed-131/136 from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Yeysk (Russia), and Chauda (Crimea)
All available weapons and equipment were engaged in repelling the air attack, including aviation, air defense missile troops, mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and electronic warfare units.
In total, 201 aerial targets were destroyed during the air battle: 102 missiles and 99 strike UAVs:
- 1 air-launched ballistic missile Kh-47M2 Kinzhal
- 1 ballistic missile Iskander-M/KN-23
- 1 cruise missile Kh-22
- 99 cruise missiles Kh-101, Kalibr, and guided air missiles Kh-59/Kh-69
- 99 strike UAVs Shahed-131/136
It is also known that several drones were locally lost on Ukrainian territory, and two crossed the state border with Belarus.
Massive shelling on August 26
This morning, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukrainian territory. According to the Air Force, the Russian forces took ten strategic Tu-95MS bombers into the air and launched missile carriers into the Black Sea.
It is already known that two energy facilities in the Kyiv region were damaged as a result of the shelling. Due to the attack, Ukrenergo (the national energy company - ed.) has ordered emergency power outages.
