EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has stated that the EU intends to significantly expand sanctions against Russia in the coming months, according to an interview she gave to Die Welt .
"EU sanctions have already cost Russia dearly, depriving Russia's war machine of over €1 trillion ($1.16 trillion) and for autumn I am putting forward the most far-reaching sanctions listings since the start of the war," Kallas said.
According to her, once these measures are implemented, the total number of Russian entities under sanctions will immediately increase by one-third.
"The pressure must keep growing until Moscow ends its war," Kallas emphasized.
At the same time, she did not provide details on the timing or specifics of the new sanctions package.
What preceded this
According to Bloomberg, the EU is preparing sanctions against more than 1,600 companies that are helping Russia in its war against Ukraine. This would be the largest number of companies to be included in a single sanctions package.
In July, the European Union approved its latest package of sanctions against Russia over Moscow's war against Ukraine. That package included restrictions on the country's banking sector and cryptocurrency networks.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that EU sanctions had targeted the manufacturers of Iskander and Sarmat missiles.
