EU plans to negotiate with Orbán to avoid blocking Ukraine's accession talks
The European Union (EU) hopes to reach an agreement with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to avoid blocking the start of actual negotiations on integration between Ukraine and the bloc, according to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, during a media interaction.
When asked whether Orbán's position might become an obstacle to the actual launch of integration negotiations with Ukraine, Kaja Kallas responded that, ultimately, the EU has always managed to reach a solution.
"Of course, we have, in the European Union, 27 different countries... So every decision we make, we discuss, and it's always difficult. So I don't have any illusions that it's going to get any easier, but in the end, we have always managed," she stated.
Ukraine's accession to the EU
According to a survey conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center, 69% of respondents support Ukraine's integration into the European Union. This is a 14% increase compared to February 2022.
Meanwhile, Poland has assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine expects cooperation to advance the issue of European integration.
At the same time, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his country's presidency will break the deadlock that has persisted in recent months regarding Ukraine's integration.
