The European Union may expand its sanctions list by the end of the year. Around 2,600 additional Russian individuals and companies are expected to be included, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak on Twitter (X).

"The European Union on Friday (September 12 – ed.) hopes to extend its sanctions on some 2,600 Russian individuals and firms," Jozwiak wrote.

He also added that Hungary and Slovakia are trying to push the EU to lift sanctions on Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov.

New sanctions package

According to Western media, the European Commission will present the 19th package of sanctions against Russia by Friday, September 12.

It is expected that the new package will include restrictions on Russia’s energy sector, crypto exchanges, and payment systems.

Notably, yesterday, September 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it outrageous that there has been no strong international response to Russia’s brutal strikes against Ukrainian civilians.

The head of state stressed that without new sanctions against Russia from the West, there will be no progress in diplomacy.
