Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, said that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union by 2027 is impossible and depends on achieving peace and carrying out reforms, according to Politico.

"Everybody in this room knows it is impossible Ukraine would become a member of the EU on Jan. 1, 2027," she stressed.

According to Marta Kos, Ukraine must meet two key conditions to gain membership — achieve peace and carry out the necessary reforms.

"First you need peace — this is important — then you have to do the reforms … investors will only come, also you know in Ukraine, if they will be first able to earn the money and if their investments will be safe," the European commissioner added.

At the same time, she stressed that Ukraine is already an important partner of the EU in innovation, defense, and other strategic areas that could strengthen the bloc’s competitiveness.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, has said that Kyiv aims to accelerate European integration as much as possible and will do everything possible to prepare for EU accession by 2027. He also emphasized the need to determine a clear date for membership.

Meanwhile, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that it is currently impossible to set specific timelines for Ukraine’s accession. At the same time, she stressed that Ukraine is on a "good path" toward membership.
