The European Union has offered Ukraine its own agreement on the use of rare earths. It should be more favorable than the American proposal, says European Commissioner for Industrial Strategy Stéphane Séjourné.

“Twenty-one of the 30 critical materials Europe needs can be provided by Ukraine in a win-win partnership,” Stéphane Séjourné said.

He also noted: “The added value Europe offers is that we will never demand a deal that's not mutually beneficial.”

Details of the European agreement are not yet known.

Agreement between Ukraine and United States

Washington has offered Ukraine a deal on rare earth metals that would create a $500 billion fund. The United States would have economic and management rights in the fund, and revenues from the sale of resources would be used as a way to reimburse American aid. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the amount of support was $100 billion and could not be considered a debt.

NBC News reported that Trump proposed that Ukraine give the US 50% of the rights to rare earth metals, but expressed readiness to deploy US troops to protect the minerals.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna said that the teams of Ukraine and the United States are in the final stages of negotiations on rare earth metals.

At the same time, Axios has learned new details of the draft agreement between the US and Ukraine on rare earths.
