EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová reacted to Russia’s threats of strikes on Kyiv, stressing that the EU will not yield to pressure in her post on Facebook.

Mathernová emphasized that the European Union will continue its work in Kyiv and has no intention of giving in to Kremlin pressure.

"We are not going anywhere!" the diplomat said.

She also described statements from the Russian Foreign Ministry as a "masterpiece of hypocrisy," referring to Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.

According to Mathernová, Moscow is trying to provoke panic, isolate Ukraine, and intimidate international organizations and diplomats. At the same time, the EU believes such threats demonstrate not strength, but weakness on the part of the Kremlin.

"The more aggressive and threatening the Kremlin becomes, the clearer it is that Putin’s regime understands it cannot break Ukraine’s resilience, nor the support of its partners," the EU ambassador said.

Mathernová stressed that the European Union will remain alongside Ukraine despite Russian pressure and threats.

"Kyiv stands. Ukraine stands. And so do we," she stated.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has officially threatened new strikes on Kyiv. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov even voiced these threats in a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

RBC-Ukraine also asked the head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, to explain what lies behind Russia’s threats. According to him, there are three reasons for Moscow’s statements, including the lack of strategic success on the battlefield.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry also reacted to Russia’s threats. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the world to respond proportionally and strongly.
