Estonian Foreign Minister calls on partners to urgently provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems
Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, has urged Western partners to urgently provide Ukraine with critically needed air defense systems to protect against Russian attacks, according to Twitter (X) from the Estonian minister.
Tsahkna noted that in March alone, over 500 drones and 250 rockets were launched over Ukraine.
"As we recently saw successfully protecting skies, in international partnership, against drones & missiles is possible. I call upon all those who can to urgently give Ukraine what they critically need," emphasized the Estonian Foreign Minister.
Air defense systems for Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine has been working on strengthening its air defense systems. However, the need for anti-aircraft defense has intensified following the resumption of Russian strikes on energy facilities.
Germany has promised to assist Ukraine in finding air defense systems. As Berlin stated, the German government will review its stocks and search worldwide for systems that could be sent to Ukraine. Today, Germany announced the transfer of an additional Patriot system to Ukraine.
However, Zelenskyy previously stated that to completely close the skies of Ukraine from Russian drones and missiles, 25 Patriot systems are needed.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine has already found 100 available Patriot systems worldwide but initially aims to obtain 7 of them.
In addition to Patriot, Ukraine prioritizes Samp-T systems, which are also capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. As of today, Ukraine is in negotiations to receive two Patriot batteries and one Samp-T battery.
