In Estonia, the risks of disconnecting from Russia's energy system have been assessed. In the worst-case scenario, consumers could be left without electricity for up to three days, according to Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal.

Estonia’s disconnection from Russia’s energy system is scheduled for February 25, 2025.

The head of government noted that the country is prepared for any scenario.

According to his estimates, in the best case, nothing will happen, while in the worst case, consumers will experience power outages.

"In the best case, nothing will happen. If problems arise, the next step will be determining which consumers need to be disconnected. The worst-case scenario is a 72-hour power outage," Michal stated.

It should be noted that Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have decided to disconnect from Russia’s energy system and connect to the Western European system. This will take place at the end of February 2025.

Earlier, Estonia stated that they do not rule out provocations from Russia during the disconnection from its energy system. In this regard, Estonian police and security services are preparing for possible incidents.

It was also reported that Lithuania will additionally strengthen the protection of certain critical energy infrastructure facilities before disconnecting from Russia’s energy system.
